Welcome to the Land of Lincoln Border Collie Association or LOLBCA. Our club has been supporting working border collie activities in the mid-west for over 20 years. Our organization was formed to:
- Promote the use of herding dogs in livestock operations
- Educate and train stock owners in the use of herding dogs in their operations
- Educate herding dog owners interested in developing the natural talents and instincts of their dog
- Support other organizations with mutual interests such as Future Farmers of America, 4-H clubs etc.
- Provide a fun, sportsmanlike competition in the open field USBCHA style herding trial
We put on one open field trial a year in Illinois. Detailed trial information is posted under the Trials tab. Be sure to join us for the fun!
PRESIDENTS MESSAGE & CLUB UPDATE
This year is just flying by…here it is, the 5th of July already…and our sheepdog trial is just two weeks away!
We have been busy, busy getting things ready. There are a lot of moving parts to putting on a trial, and it seems that we will be ready for another well run, fun and interesting trial that tests our dogs and handlers.
Our Judge this year is Mr Gordon Watt and we are very excited to have him! The trial will once again be held at the Weavers farm in Vandalia, IL. There will be lots of homemade food for breakfast and lunch. Also, we will have a handlers’ dinner on Friday night at the local Mennonite Restaurant.
The trial filled very quickly and we ended up having to do a draw. The final acceptance list is now up on the handlerspost.com. A running order will be posted soon.
As you know, in order for a trial to run smoothly, we needs lots of hands. Volunteer shifts will be 2.5 hours each. We will need volunteers for scribing and sheet running/posting of scores and of course for the final set up and tear down, too. Please connect with Catherine Price to volunteer to help! We need all the hands we can get.
The LOLBCA Club will host its annual meeting on Friday, July15 at the local Mennonite restaurant, centered around a meal and gathering of handlers.
At the meeting we will review club business and hold elections. It is a great time to get caught up and to discuss the future of the club. We would love everyone’s input on how to make the club stronger.
The agenda for the club will be sent out a week before the meeting, so if you have a topic that you would like on the agenda, please let us know. Also, if you would like to get more involved, we would love to have you. We will be voting on 2 open positions on the board.
Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend! If you are interested nominating someone for the board, accepting a nomination or voting, you must be a member in good standing and current on your membership dues. You can send in your membership dues today — Click here for a membership form and the mailing address!
Board of Directors Elections
One of the key items on the annual meeting agenda is the Election of the Board of Directors.
Please consider volunteering to step into one of the two open board positions. If you would volunteer to be nominated for one of the open board positions, please contact me asap. Encourage another club member to volunteer. . For more information on how the elections will work, refer to the club by-laws by clicking here.
We look forward to seeing you in two weeks!
